Land For Wildlife Conservation
The Carlisle River district was settled in the early 1900s, when farm allotments were taken up along the Gellibrand River. One of the pioneering families were the Box brothers; Harry and Arthur, who were the first non indigenous occupiers of what is now known as Sandy Creek Valley. With very limited mechanical means, it was difficult to establish a viable farm, so after a short time the property reverted to Crown land. It was subsequently re-allocated to Robert Hargreaves, owner of the adjoining farm.
Sandy Creek Valley has been in the ownership of the same family for nearly 60 years and is listed with the Land For Wildlife Conservation Scheme.
